1-24-2013 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha

The Jan. 24, 2013 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha opened with a prayer, pledge and a couple of songs.

Guests included Nancy Hughes, Monica Trevino and John Allen.

Pastor Michael Butler of First Baptist Church was bestowed by President Cody White as a Paul Harris Fellow, courtesy of Elmer Kuntz.

Prayer concerns include Jerry Mottinger and Bill and Janice McVey.

Two new members were inducted -- Gordon Ramsey and Christy Elkins. Gordon, clinc administrator at Five Oaks Medical Group, was sponsored by Mike Nunamaker. Christy is the director of the Chickasha Economic Development Council. Her sponsor was Tom Rose.

President Cody passed the hat to collect money to pay the cinematographer for his work on the epic "A Rotary Christmas Carol." The club owes $600 for the movie.

Rotarian of the Day was Nathan Donald who introduced Arlie Daniel, a member of the district Rotaract Club committee.

Rotaract, established in 1968, is for those young men and women 18 to 30. It fosters leadership and responsible citizenship. There are 8,400 Rotaract Clubs in 170 countries.

Our club is working to establish Rotaract Club No. 8,401 on the campus of University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma. Nathan Donald is heading up the club's effort to make that happen.

Daniel talked about some of the things Rotaract Clubs accomplish:

• Promote Rotary and Rotary ideals.

• Participate with local Rotary Clubs in community service projects at home and abroad, including such things as trash pickup, world polio day awareness events, and water filter projects.

• Professional and leadership development.

To be chartered a Rotaract Club must adopt bylaws, provide RI a list of signatures of the prospective members and submit a $50 bill with the application.
