10-11-2012 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha

The Oct. 11, 2012 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha opened with a prayer, pledge and song.

Guests included Grant Gordon, former club member Jay Foertsch and Thomas of the Opportunity Center.

Amy Sutton was proposed by Michael Oberlender as a prospective new member.

President Cody White announced that there would a board meeting next Wednesday, Oct. 17.

Ann Manchester once again issued a plea for silent auction items and also announced the raffle prizes for this year's Christmas Party will be an Ipad 3 and a PC. Tickets on sale soon.

Mark Millsap was Rotarian of the Day. He introduced Festival of Light board president Marcy Langle as our guest speaker.

This is the 20th annual festival. A new board is trying to rebuild community spirit in one of the state's top tourist attractions, which attracts about 250,000 through Shannon Springs Park each holiday season.

Marcy said all the decorations are designed and built in Chickasha.

Installation is currently underway for the Nov. 20 opening night. Volunteers are needed every Friday and Saturday until the opening to complete the installation.

She encouraged business owner to allow their employees to work on Friday under the Loan-a-worker program.

Marcy wouldn't divulge what, but she promising "something special" this year on the lighted bridge across the pond in Shannon Springs Park.

She said it takes 6 to 8 volunteers to man the gates and gift shop every night of the Festival through closing on Dec. 31.

Once again the animated light show set to music and a live nativity will be among the activities each night in the park.

The meeting closed after recitation of the Rotary 4-Way test.
