11-15-2012 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha

The Nov. 15, 2012 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha opened with prayer by David Sikes, pledge by Phil Gordon, and song by Rocky Roberson. 

President Cody White then introduced District Gov. Phil Moss for a special presentation. Moss presented the club with a check for $1,500 for our District Simplified Grant application, which will be used to purchase food for the Chickasha Emergency Food Pantry.  He also presented the club a certificate of appreciation for its financial support of Rotary's $200 Million Challenge to eradicate Polio.  

Guests included Mike Quisenberry and Assistant District Gov. Carter Wade.

Cody reminded the club of the Fundraiser that afternoon at Charles Allen Ford, and reminded the club to sell raffle tickets for the iPad and computer give-away on December 11th.  

There will be no meeting next week, on Thanksgiving.  

John Grote reminded Rotarians that have signed up to work the Festival of Lights on Tuesday and Wednesday November 20 and 21.  

David Sikes was the Rotarian of the Day and his program was Rotarian Mitch Williams speaking about the Chickasha Airport.

Mitch gave some basic facts about the airport.

•Main Runway is 5100 Feet long and will accommodate medium Jets. 

•Services include avgas and jet-fuel, aircraft hangarage, Courtesy Car. 

•1 jet, 4 Multi-Engine, 45 Single-Engine Airplanes 

The history of the airport dates back to WWII when an army air corps flight school was established in Chickasha.

Businesses located at airport include Chickasha Wings, MyStorage, Dusters & Sprayers Supply Inc., Medi-Flight and Heli Quest.

Mitch opened Chickasha Wings in 2003. The company:

-- Rents six airplanes and a Redbird Simulator (BATD) 

– Employs 2 full time Flight Instructors and 6 part-timers 

– Employs 2 Mechanics 

– In 2011, trained 14 new Private Pilots, 9 Advanced ratings, 1592 flight hours 

– So far 2012: 21 new Privates, 7 Adv. Ratings 

• Administered 32 FAA Knowledge Tests 

• Ground schools each Spring, Summer & Fall 

• FOL Airplane Rides. 

Mitch concluded his program by outlining advantages of utilizing general aviation and the costs of owning and operating an aircraft.
