2-17 Rotary meeting

Febuary is Scout Month and the theme continued. Guest speaker at the 2-17-2011 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha was Last Frontier Council Scout Executice Jeff Woolsey, who was introduced by Rotarian Gary McNatt. Woolsey reported that ''scouting is alive and well in the Last Frontier Council." He said scouting is poised for its next 100 years. Woolsey said "volunteerism is the magic scouting." He asked how many of the Chickasha Rotarians had been scoutmasters and 5 Rotarians raised their hands. The Last Frontier Council which is made up of 24 counties in Central Oklahoma and Southwest Oklahoma, including Chickasha and Grady County. He said there are 26 council employees and 5,000 volunteers. Guests included Tia Murphy of Chickasha, who works for Goodwill Industries. Tia, a prospective member, was introduced by Nancy Smith. Other guests included Mrs. Sherman Frederickson and visiting Rotarian Harry Meister of the Bricktown Club. Prayer concerns included Dr. David Hall Sr., Janice McVey, Jean Chamberlain and Steve LaForge. President Mark announced that there would be a board meeting Friday, Feb. 18 at the community room at First National Bank. Nancy Smith encouraged Rotarians to consider hosting an International Exchange Student. It has been many years since the club has provided host home for a Rotary Exchange student. Nancy asked the board to consider starting the process of getting a student to Chickasha. Nancy and co-membership chairman Jim Allen encouraged everyone to think of prospective members after President Mark reported that the club was down to 80 members. He also encouraged Rotarians to take a coin box to donate change to the Rotary Foundation. The meeting adjourned after recitation of the Rotary 4-Way Test.
