The March 20, 2014 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha opened with a prayer, pledge and the song "Take Me out to the Ballgame."
President-elect Kory Kirkland presided in the absence of President Greg Elliott.
Guests included Eric Sikes.
Kory announced that there would be a brief Run Committee meeting following today's meeting.
He also reminded that March is matching points month for contributions to the Rotary Foundation.
Our guest speaker was Alex Freedman, Director of Broadcast and Media Relations for the Oklahoma City Redhawks.
Freedman is the radio play by play man for the Redhawks, the Triple A affiliate of the Houston Astros.
The Redhawks are members of the the 16-team Pacific Coast League and play a 144-game schedule.
The season opener is two weeks away on April 3 on the road against Round Rock. and the home opener is April 11 against New Orleans.
Freedman said baseball has a very extensive player development system with each MLB franchise having six or seven affiliates from Rookie Leagues to AAA.
OKC had been a Texas Rangers affiliate but signed with the Astros a few years ago. He said AAA players are owned by the Major League Club.
The Redhawks are owned by Mandalay Baseball properties, a division of Mandalay Entertainment.
The organization strives to provide fans family entertainment, quality service, affordable tickets and marking opportunities for sponsors.
Single game tickets range from $7 to $19. Seven-game and partial season season tickets are available as well as custom group packages.
The Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark has undergone several changes in the past couple of years, included updates concessions with a variety of new menu items, expanded seating capacity down left field line and drink rails around the concourse.
Freedman concluded with a drawing for some Redhawks merchandise. Sharon Bowman won a baseball; Mark Tibbetts, a framed team photo; and Peggy Boldt, a Redhawks cap.
The meeting adjourned after recitation of the Rotary 4-Way Test.
