Shawn Gushing, a member of the Singing Churchmen of Oklahoman, was guest speaker at the 4-3-2014 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha. He talked about the group's recent trip to Sochi, Russia. The April 3, 2014 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha opened with a prayer, pledge and song.
There were no guests.
Prayer concerns are Paul Garrett, whose uncle passed and the family of Dr. John Minnette.
Presiden Greg Elliott, back with a tan after two weeks in Mexico, reminded Rotarians that the club will be sending three high school juniors to Ryla Camp this summer and applications will be accept by juniors who will be seniors next year.

The Rotary Run is May 17. Check with Brad Duvall if you are interested in being a sponsor. The run committee will meet briefly after the meeting.

Tim Elliott was Rotarian of the Day and introduced Shawn Gushing as our guest speaker. Shawn is a former club member, who is a member of the singing Churchmen of Oklahoma, a group of 250 Baptist men, most of them ministers of music or ministers.
The group meets nine times a year and performs concerts around the state.
Every four years they take the music ministry on the road to such counties as Russia, China and Armenia.
Earlier this year, that went to Sochi, Russia, but had to be known as the Singing Men of Oklahoma, because while you worship freely in Russia, evangelism is not permitted. The had to enter the country on "tourist" visas and do tourist things while there. As part of the mission, they served food to the homeless and sang in orphanages.
They spent four days in Moscow and four days in Sochi, sight of the 2014 Winter Olympics. The group got to take in an Olympic hockey game while there.
Shawn showed us some of the Olympic pins he acquired while on the trip and told about trading one of his pins for a prized McDonald's Happy Meal toy.
The meeting adjourned after recitation of the Rotary 4-Way Test.
