5-12-2011 Rotary meeting

The 5-12-2011 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha opened with prayer, pledge and song.

Guests included Jon Benecke, Jeremy Thomas and James Meli. 

Prayer concerns include Janice McVey and Terry Howell.

President Mark Tibbetts announced that there would be a board meeting Friday, May 13 at the community room in First National Bank.

Volunteers are needed for Saturday's Rotary Day Run and Shrimp and Crab Boil.

Members were asked to remember to take a coin box and collect spare change for the Rotary Foundation.

President Mark read a thank you from the Chickasha Public School Foundation for the club's continued sport of the foundation and public education.

Jim Allen was the Rotarian of the Day who introduced U.S. Army Sgt. Ret. John Cronauer, a former special forces Green Beret and three-time purple heart winner, as our guest speaker.

Cronauer has been a Chickasha resident since 1993 because it sits halfway between OKC and Fort Sill-Lawton.

He explained that special forces from all branches have been consolidated under one command.  His presentation was timely because of the recent killing of Osama Bin Laden by Navy Seal Team 6.

 Cronauer said that unit had been training for months before executing the mission and most likely had been in isolation for the two weeks before getting the order to carry it out.

 Thank you Sgt. Cronauer for an informative program and thank you for your service to your country.
