6-28-2012 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha

The Rotary Club of Chickasha's annual awards and installation luncheon was held Thursday, June 28, 2012 in the ballroom at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma.

The meeting opened with a prayer, pledge and songs.

Guests included Virginia Ramsey, Tanner Tibbetts, Freddie Fredrickson, Amy White and Lilly Oberlender.

Visting Rotarians were Terry Godfrey of Cyril and Phil Moss of Norman, who is the incoming Rotary District Governor.

Outgoing President Michael Oberlender was honored as Rotarian of Year by club members for his leadership and club involvement over the past 12 months. Michael is pastor of First Christian Church of Chickasha.

Other awards and presentations:

--David Sikes, chairman of the Rotary Scouting Committee, present special awards to two Rotarians for their service to the community through Rotary and Scouting. Receiving the Cliff Dochterman Award were long-time scout volunteers and Rotarians John Mosley and Mark Tibbetts. The Dochterman Award was created by the Association of Scouting Rotarians because the ideals and principles of both organizations are parallel.

Cody White presented a $1,000 Rotary Dan Proctor Scholarship to Tanner Tibbetts. Two other recipients were recognized in May.

-- 2011-2012 board members were recognized.

-- Perfect attendance awards were presented to Peggy Boldt, Charlie Burruss, Pauline Garrett, David Hall Jr., Elmer Kuntz, Michael Oberlender, Ron Sanders, Mark Tibbetts, Richard Van Dyck, Cody White and Karen Zeiset.

--Service Above Self Awards went to Peggy Boldt, Cody White, Bill McVey, Brad Duvall, Pauline Garrett, Ann Manchester and Kory Kirkland.

President Michael wrapped up his year by showing a slideshow of some of the key moments at Rotary functions in 2011-2012. He reported that about $12,500 had been given to community projects during the past year. Michael then passed the gavel to Cody as well as his president's pin and badge.

Cody said he had several goals he wants to accomplish during his year as president, including:

--Improve communication among and between the membership.

--Engage past presidents to stay involved in club activities.

--Streamline committees and create new ones to better serve.

--Develop a more efficient process for funding community projects.

--Explore new fundraisers to replace the Shrimp and Crab Boil.

Cody then presented Michael a gift from the club, his past president's badge and pin.

The meeting closed after recitation of the Rotary 4-Way Test.
