7-18-13 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha

The July 18, 2013 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha opened with a prayer, pledge of allegiance and song.

Guests included Deena Hammons and Logan and Tanner Tibbetts.

It was Greg Elliott's first meeting as president. He announced that the new Club Directory and Program Schedule is now available. He asked if there are any mistakes to let him know and he would make an announcement about the corrections. He said he had extras available if you wanted to keep one at home and at the office.

Two of three club-sponsored RYLA campers were introduced. John Phillips IV and Payton Hammons talked about the experience of camp, the friends made and the lessons learn. Bailey Bryan, the third RYLA camper, was off at another camp and was unable to attend.

Our guest speaker was ourown Rocky Robertson, a past club president President and Troop 301 Scoutmaster.

Troop 301 is the troop chartered in 1921by he Rotary Club of Chickasha. There's even a trailer that denotes that distinction on the back.

Rocky showed several slides of the groups travels to various camps and other activities through the years. Rocky was a scout growing up and so his is son.

"It is a great reward sharing the experiences of your youth with your son," he told club members. 

Rocky said Summer Camp is the highlight of the year for Scouts.

"The best classroom in the world is outdoors," he said. "Scouting builds friendships that last a lifetime."

In addition to the fun activities, scouts do a lot of public service work. A recent Eagle Scout project constructed a sidewalk that connected two buildings at the historic Washita Theatre.

President Greg reminded the board that there is a board meeting Friday, July 19.
