Rotary heard from Alex Warnes, owner of Wild Ox Axe Throwing, opening next week in Chickasha. The Rotary Club of Chickasha met Thursday, August 3, 2023. Rotarian Mitch Williams led the club in singing "Downtown".
At the start of the meeting, members heard from Zachary Kopek and Logan Green, both seniors at Chickasha High School. Zachary and Logan were sponsored by the club to attend Camp RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Academy). Both students shared insights that they gained from the experience, through workshops, activities, and volunteering.

Logan, right, talks about his experience at Camp RYLA along with Zachary.
President Jim Cowan, standing in for Rotarian of the Day Jim Allen, introduced the meeting's speaker, Alex Warnes. Alex is the owner of Wild Ox Axe Throwing, which opens next week in Chickasha.
Alex (left) is originally from Denver, Colorado, but was in ministry in Chickasha until recently. He had noticed all the recent progress the city has made recently and was inspired to start a business."Chickasha is a place where you can grow; to make something of yourself," he explained.
Assessing what sort of business was needed in Chickasha, he settled on axe throwing, a rapidly growing hobby nationwide. "We need things to do," he added, "especially for adults."
Wild Ox's facility is based on the standards used by the World Axe Throwing League (WATL). It will have three double lanes--one party, up to 5 people, per lane. Groups can walk in or reserve space.
The venue will serve snacks and drinks at cost and have board games available. Additionally, Wild Ox is partnering with Ben & Jay's Pizzeria to serve a limited menu.
Wild Ox is located at 301 W. Chickasha Ave. The grand opening is scheduled for August 11-13.
Lunch was provided by Interurban.
