Program Committee Chair Alan Grimes introduced the program of Randy Talley and Mike Justice with the Salvation Army. Randy started off by sharing how the First National Bank and Salvation Army are patterning together to not only work on Disaster relief but also with helping people understand the importance of planning for the future by including non-profits into your will. Salvation Army is not there to collect money but to service people in Jesus name. To be there for people dealing with loss of property and recovery after a disaster does take funs.
One program they do is called “Night Watch” where they provide a place to stay and warm food. He shared a story about a guy named Mark who's life was changed by the program. He then went on to share of the people in the room less than 10% of the collected funds in the room is in the form of cash. A lot of people look at their cash and say they don't have very much to give. But if you look at your total assets you may find you have more than you think. He then strongly encouraged all to think about including charitable institutions in your will and estate. If you don't have a will then you don't have a plan.
Thanks Alan for an interesting program.
