1-16-2014 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha
Harve Allen of the Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission was guest speaker at the 1-16-2014 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha. The January 16 meeting of the Rotary of Club of Chickasha opened with a prayer, pledge, song and no food.
Guests included Aaron McNatt and Clark Southard.
Food, thanks to Glen Orndorff of Spencer's Supermarket, and none of us starved.
Conrad Duprez passed around sign up sheets for men to mentor 5th grade boys at the Feb. 5 "Gentlemen of Distinction" program. Contact Conrad if you are interested. Ladies are also needed for the "Diamonds in the Rough" program for 5th grade girls. Prospective mentors can let Conrade know if you are interested. Both programs are sponsored by the Chickasha Public School Foundation.
President Greg passed out ballots for next fiscal year's slate of officers. On the ballot were Kory Kirkland, president; Greg Elliot, past president; Brad Duvall, president -elect; Nathan Donald, vice-president; Matt Metry, secretary; Crystie Shebester, treasurer; and Stuart Fairburn and Mark Millsap, directors. The vote was approve or do not approve for the entire slate.
Greg reminded Rotarians about the Feb. 22 Rotary Foundation Bi-District banquet. RI President Ron Burton will be there.
Greg also said the club will implement a dollar match program for Foundation contributions during March. That is a quick way to reach the threshold to become a Paul Harris Fellow.
Rotarian of the Day was Mitch Williams who introduced Harve Allen of the Oklahoma Aeronauticas Commission as our guest speaker.
Allen said the primary responsibility of the commission is the promotion of aviation and aero space industry in Oklahoma.
He said Oklahoma has 49 regional airports, 43 of which are jet-capable airports. Chickasha is one of those airports.
About 143,000 Oklahomans are employed in the aero space industry with an average of salary of about $60,000. About 20,000 of those jobs are at Tinker Force Base. The industry generated about $12.5 billion in economic output.
Oklahoma is considered one of the 7 major repairs centers in the World. American Airlines Maintenance and Engineering Facility in Tulsa is the world's largest commercial aircraft repair facility, employing 7,000.
A side note: Allen is on the OU Sooner football stat crew and also does some work on game nights for the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The meeting adjourned after recitation of the Rotary 4-Way Test.
