1-2-2014 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha
Cale Walker, field representative for U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe, R-OK, was guest speaker at the 1-2-2014 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha. The Rotary Club of Chickasha kicked off 2014 with a Jan. 2 meeting that opened with a prayer, pledge and a song, appropriately, Auld Lange Syne.
Guests included Jeff McVey and Brian Peltier.
Prayer concerns were Linda Adams, wife of Rotarian Tom Adams, and Rotarian Dick McCalla.
President Greg Elliott read a thank you note from State Rep. David Perryman, D-Chickasha, concerning the club's donation of Bill Wallace Early Childhood Center that helped the school buy ipads and an a mobile ipad charging station.
Conrad Duprez, representing the Chickasha Public School Foundation, asked his fellow Rotarians to volunteer to be mentors at the upcoming "Gentlemen of Distinction" luncheon. You can call Conrad or call the CPSF office at 405-222-6500, Ext 1009. You need to own a tie and agree to wear it that day and swear you won't put your elbows on the table or tuck your napkin in your shirt collar while the young men are watching. The foundation has sponsored a similar program for young ladies for several years.
As the level of satisfaction has risen in recent months over our meal situation, so have the cost. Effective this month the weekly assessment for each meal goes up $1.
Rotarian of the Day Evan Blasinggame introduced Cale Walker, field rep for U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe, R-OK, as our guest speaker.
Walker, who is an OSU graduate and lives in Chickasha, said Inhofe has been in the U.S. Senate since 1994. The 79-year-old Senator is the Armed Services Committee Ranking Member and also serves on the committee that deals with the environment, public works, transportation and water works.
Inhofe was one of the authors of the Defense Budget Authorization bill that includes $100 million in projects at state bases.
Among of items of importance in the bill are funding eduction in towns with military bases, no money for base closures, modernization of the military, authorization of a full audit of the DOD and continued funding of The Guantanamo Bay detention center for suspected terrorist that keeps them off U.S. soil.
Other issues of interest to Inhofe is the water resources act, funding of the Farm Bill to include food stamp cuts and defunding of the of Affordable Health Care Act.
The meeting ending with recitation of the Rotary 4-Way test.
