Robert Vaughan of Goodwill Industries was guest speaker at the 10-17-2013 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha. The 10-17-2013 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha opened with a prayer, pledge and a song.
Prayer concerns include the Bill Hodges family and Don Pittman, father of Jerry Pittman.
President Greg Elliott reminded Rotarians about opportunities to sell tickets for the John Deere Gator at community events. This weekend it will be parked at the Reding Farm Maize. The drawing for the Gator will be at the Dec. 12 Christmas Party. Rotarians must sell a minimum of 5 tickets.
Rotarian of the Day was Tia Murray. She introduced Robert Vaughan, Goodwill V.P. of Retail of the SW Oklahoma region as guest speaker.
His job is to improve the retail structure at Goodwill stores and help people in the community.
The Goodwill Store in Chickasha is located in the Southland Shopping Center.
Goodwill has programs to work with the mentally impaired to work in some capacity at the stores.
Goodwill operates solely on public donations and revenue generated through the stores to help fund programs.
"Our philosophy is a hand up, not a hand out," Vaughan said.
He said plans for Chickasha include building a stand alone store and career development and training center.
Another revenue source for Goodwill is recycling. Any non-working appliance and other items are sold for scrap.
President Greg announced that Derrick Allen is a prospective new member, sponsored by Tom Rose.
The meeting adjourned after recitation of the Rotary 4-Way Test.
