Brian Eden, an account rep for Lucchese Boots, was guest speaker at the 2-13-2014 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha.
The Feb. 13, 2014 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha opened with a prayer, pledge and the song, "These Boots are Made for Walking."
Guests included Kathy Tibbetts and Judge Wyatt Hill.
Sunshine report included Julius Harralson, who is back after recuperating from his second knee replacement.
President Greg Elliott presented a check from the club for $500 to Jyme Tiner of the Grady County Reading council to help defray costs of the group's end of the year recognitions of the county's most prolific elementary school readers. Children's book illustrator Mike Wimmer will speak this year, each child will receive a book and a certificate of achievement.
President Greg presented another check from the club for $400 to Al Hoch, representing Baptist Children's Home, which will use the money to help fund an outing for the kids.
Rotarians were reminded by Kathy Tibbetts and there were still available for that night's Friends of the Library Chocolate Celebration.
Rotarian of the Day Mark Tibbetts introduced Brian Eden, an account rep for Lucchese Boots, as our guest speaker.
Brian started his presentation showing a letter from John Wayne giving a ringing endorsement of the quality of Lucchese boots. Lucchese is known as "the bookmaker to the stars."
The company traces back three generations and to the 1800s when it began making boots for the U.S. Calvary.
Brian showed a pair of $3,000 handmade Lucchese boots and explained the 120 steps to build them.
The boots are made from the best quality leather, which includes almost all parts with the exception of a steel shank, a heel cap and lemonwood pegs.
The company does sell less expensive boots that are handcrafted, which is still a quality boot. The custom, hand made boots are constructed one boot at a time while hand crafted is when a bookmaker works on multiple boots at one time.
The meeting adjourned after recitation of the Rotary 4-Way Test.
