5-5-2011 Rotary Club Meeting

The 5-5-2011 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha was called to order by President Mark Tibbetts, followed by a prayer, pledge of allegiance and song.

It was the first meeting at the club's new meeting location, First Christian Church, 6th and Kansas. Food was catered by Temazcal. The 5-12 meeting next week will be catered by Jake's. Direct all questions and/or complaints about the food to Kory Kirkland.

Guests included Paul Lewis and several members of this years class of Leadership Chickasha.

Prayer concerns include Terry Howell and Bill and Janice McVey.

Chris Mosley and Bill McVey will be out Friday greeting freshmen at Chickasha High School. There are only two more opportunities to perform this important outreach program this school year.

Sign up sheets were passed around for the May 14 Rotary Run and Shrimp and Crab Boil. All hands will need to be on deck on that day for both events.

Jayson Jarnagin reported that tickets for the upcoming Community Theatre production of On Gold Pond could be purchased at Jay's Jewelry. That commercial cost Jayson a $1. 

President Mark inducted the club's newest member, Steve Clark who received his Rotary pin from sponsor Cody White. Steve is an environment engineer for Waste Connections. He and his wife are parent of twins. Welcome to the club, Steve.

Rotarian of the Day Leah Edwards introduced Coach Tom Cobble as a our guest speaker.

Coach Tom Cobble returns to Chickasha after several years coaching at El Reno and Enid.  Other coaching stops have included Minco and Weatherford.

Cobble said he and his family are very happy about returning to Chickasha. He said his son would be joining his Chickasha coaching staff.

He said coaching is about relationships and building young me.

"It's not about winning games but winning live," he told Rotarians.

Cobble said about 35 youngsters were going through off-season workouts and anticpates that number growing once track and baseball seasons end. He anticpates heading into next season with a roster of about 50 kids.

He said it will be a busy late spring and summer with six days of spring practice, culminating with a scrimmage on May 26, several summer football camps, Summer Pride conditioning starting in June and fall practice beginning in early August.

The Chicks open the season at home against Anadarko. Cobble said his defense would be headed by CHS athletic Director Yohance Brown, who will return to the field as defensive coordinator. He said Brown would install a 5-2 defense, designed to stop the run.

Cobble said the offense will be molded to fit the talents of the kids.
