The Aug. 1 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha opened with a prayer, pledge and a very weak rendition of “We Are the World.”

Guests included Chan from Thailand and Lilly Oberlender.

Prayer concerns go out to Julius Harralson, who is having the first of two planned knee replacement surgeries.

Birthday greetings went out this week to Jerry Pittman, Brett Burns and Angela Jones.

President Greg Elliott read a thank you card from Mobile Meals in gratitude to the club’s donation to the program.

Our guest speaker was District 5770 Gov. Terry Godfrey. Also at the meeting was District. Lt. Gov. Carter Wald.

Terry, after presenting the club a Rotary banner that reads “Engage Rotary, Change Lives,” thanked the club for its contributions to Chickasha and what the club does for youth, including started a Rotaract Club at USAO. He said cultivating youth is a good way to build membership in the future.

He reminded us about the Foundation and membership workshop on Aug. 10.

Foundation giving is very important to Terry. He said every member of the Cyril club is a Paul Harris Fellow.

One of his goals this year is have Rotarian in District 5770 to make some contribution to the Rotary International Foundation during his 2013-2014 tenure. He also talked about the distribution of foundation funds for district grants and international projects.

He said Rotary supplied about 300 shelter boxes for families immediately after the May tornadoes.
