9-26-2013 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha
Oklahoman Sports Editor Mike Sherman was guest speaker at the 9-26-2013 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha. The Sept. 26, 2013 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha opened with a prayer, pledge and song.
Guests included Sarah Weber, John Wagner and Derrick Allen.
Prayer concerns include Tim Brauer's son, Caleb, who broke his leg and Jim Glaze who continues treatments
President Greg Elliott reported that the club had handed almost $85,000 in donations to support almost 50 local organizations and projects since 2009.
More than 15,000 has been given by the club this year alone.
Greg also said the board has approved a major new fundraiser for this fall.
The club will be giving away a John Deere Gator 550 atv.
The giveaway takes the place of the silent auction that has been held for the past several years at the annual Christmas Party. The winning ticket will be drawn at this year's party on Dec. 12.
Tickets for the drawing will be $20 each and each club member will be responsible for selling a minimum of 5 tickets. As an extra incentive, the Rotarian who sells the most tickets will get a dinner at an OKC restaurant and a night at the Skirvin hotel for themselves and a significant other.
Tom Adams was Rotaran of the Day and introduced Oklahoman Sports Editor as our guest speaker.
After telling some embarrassing family secrets about Tom, who is his brother-in-law, Mike opened the floor to questioned.
Among the topics covered: OSU and Sports Illustrated. Mike believes the report lacked credibility and that such a story would never had made into his newspaper;
His picks of OU to beat Notre Dame and OSU to beat West Virginia, the frustration of lack of access to football practices and Texas Coach Mac Brown, who Sherman said has "lost his rudder."
The meeting closed after recitation of the Rotary 4-Way Test.
